ABSTRACT

There are three types of online learners: some that are voracious and participate in everything regardless (labeled hogs), some that are particular about how they participate online, choosing what suits them best, (labeled opossums), and the final group participates minimally on only what is required, (labeled horses). While just providing the minimum, the instructor runs the risk of being a talking head, it is easy to engage all learners through online groups where they must collaborate through high-tech or low-tech means. Individual feedback, well-designed questions and clear instructions aid in learner engagement.
