ABSTRACT

In Chapter 6 we examined the purposeful choice and use of materials to develop mathematical language. Purposefully chosen images is also essential to developing mathematical language and building the necessary conceptual foundation to ensure mathematical success. Fluency in using algebraic properties to compute builds on this conceptual foundation (Huinker & Bill, 2017). In this chapter we examine the purposeful choice of images for two algebraic properties, Associative Property and Distributive Property.
