ABSTRACT

This chapter intends to help teachers develop their knowledge and understanding of how research can, does and, perhaps, should inform practice in physical education. In this chapter, specific attention is given to the ways and extent to which research connects to teaching disabled students. Several topics are discussed in this chapter, beginning with a discussion about the terms research and practice as well as the relationships and connections between these two concepts generally in education and specifically in physical education. The chapter continues with a discussion about the significance of school and teacher-based practices being informed by research, as well as ideas for key stakeholders in education to ensure that schools are research engaged and that physical education teachers are able to source, conduct and use research to improve physical education experiences for disabled students.
