ABSTRACT
This chapter first reviews the basic human needs (BHN) approach, and then how the human development (HD) approach is a logical successor to it. The next brief section shows Sri Lanka’s record in HD relative to the other South Asian countries. Following that, the reasons for this success are evaluated, and the chapter ends with a brief conclusion.
