ABSTRACT

The work environment has changed tremendously from the decades before. The changes have been mostly in the form of organizational structure, cultural and gender diversity, along with the nature of work. Today’s organizations have recognized the benefits of restructuring work environment to increase productivity and creating environments for collaboration, cost management, innovations and sharing, and better employee experience. The role of leadership in this context is as critical as the changes that have come into play. This chapter discusses how each element for restructuring relates to service leadership and how the role that leaders play in this environment or habitat matters greatly.

The role of leadership is critical to any organization. A comparison of different leadership styles is made with service leadership to suggest that leadership in the service economy is very different from the leadership applied in the manufacturing era. Hence, leaders need to prepare themselves for the service leadership style to successfully move their organizations forward. The chapter concludes with the tools needed by the service leaders to effectively lead their organizations.
