ABSTRACT

The core self that begins life in utero remains preserved and undiscovered as differentiation proceeds and the individual strives to fulfil his or her potential. Isolation prevents change if the authentic self has been subjected to exposure, but when this self is treated with respect, it may produce change and emergence of an alive personality. A human being was the only thing that could save him, but it was also what had killed him, and here it was happening again. Riding roughshod over the vulnerability of the authentic self is not uncommon, including by those who have been highly trained to deal with mental illness. No matter how authors formulate ideas from these unusual experiences to help the person become more human, they will be sharing ideas with someone other than the person with whom they are speaking.
