Consideration of compound discrimination can be a useful tool in illuminating and analyzing the situation, can encourage society to take appropriate action and empower women as a minority. In addition, Zainichi Korean women, who are the theme of this article, also had a consistently higher suicide rate. Up to this point, compound discrimination issues in Zainichi Korean women, which lead to mental disorders and suicide issues, have been identified through statistical resources and interview survey results. Zainichi Korean women bear much stress in Japanese society due to discriminatory treatment as Zainichi Koreans and discriminatory treatment as women, and this becomes a cause leading to mental disorders and suicide. Next, the life history of three Zainichi Korean women was recounted by a second-generation Zainichi Korean woman who worked as a caregiver at a welfare center frequented by many Zainichi Korean women.
