ABSTRACT
Ivonne discusses becoming an educator and teaching Spanish to monolingual English speakers. She illuminates the impact heritage language learners of Spanish have on her role and in her actualization as a teacher. This chapter concludes with Ivonne's journey as the 2018 New Mexico Teacher of the Year, from the announcement through the start of her activism advocating for immigrant communities in the United States.
