ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses Sheltered Instruction Protocol, which creates a welcoming environment by creating a structure where students can find success due to the integrated language supports within content classes. In addition, it helps to integrate English Learner (EL) students into the general education population for parts of their day, rather than secluding them. Leah provides an explanation for and research on the protocol and provides a high school example, incorporating EL teachers, case managers, paraprofessionals and social workers.
