ABSTRACT

In this chapter, Leah discusses Green Card Youth Voices and the impact of the book project on her students and the community, as well as its role in creating a welcoming environment for refugee and immigrant students. Leah also explains the Partnership for New Americans course, which partners new EL students with U.S. born mentor students. This course includes projects that help students advocate for a greater good, such as the Global Goals project and projects that help students share their stories, like the We Are America Project. In this chapter, Leah provides concrete resources and lesson plans that educators can implement in their schools and classrooms.
