ABSTRACT
This chapter explores emerging innovations in the building construction industry. It provides detailed descriptions, examples, and charts about new developments, emerging technologies, leading solution providers, and the revenue impact of innovations through 2035 in the building construction industry. Five major innovation areas such as green buildings, intelligent/smart home, advanced manufacturing/3D printing, advanced materials, and design for compact spaces are discussed in terms of revenue growth, technology maturity, market opportunity, and the Three Horizon framework. Our analysis suggests that, in the next ten years, manufacturers will increasingly move toward smart and intelligent buildings. By 2035, we expect most buildings to be more efficient, green, and smart in comparison to today’s buildings.
