ABSTRACT
This chapter explores emerging innovations in the Internet of Things (IoT) industry. It provides detailed descriptions, examples, and charts about new developments, emerging technologies, leading solution providers, and the revenue impact of innovations through 2035 in the IoT industry.
The IoT is one of the greatest innovations of our time, significantly contributing to new business models, connected products/services, and improved quality of life. Our observation is that with emerging innovations in sensors, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning, IoT is creating value by enhancing customer experience as well as creating new markets.
In this chapter, five major innovation areas such as connected homes, connected wearables, connected cars, smart cities, and the industrial internet are discussed in terms of revenue growth, technology maturity, market opportunity, and the Three Horizon framework. The content of this section can be used for technology/opportunity scouting and strategic planning based on your organization’s objectives and risk tolerance.
