ABSTRACT

In this introductory chapter, I engage in four kinds of discussion. In the first kind of discussion, I introduce the subject matter of this book and the problématique of the subject matter. In the second kind of discussion, I explain why global justice is worth discussing. In the third kind of discussion, I discuss the theoretical and conceptual differences between statism and cosmopolitanism. I juxtapose statism with cosmopolitanism. This is meant to achieve two objectives. First, it is aimed at giving the reader an overview of the various arguments statists and cosmopolitans use in defence of their theories. Second, it is aimed at showing the reader the large extent to which statism and cosmopolitanism are different, and the less extent to which they are similar. Finally, in the fourth kind of discussion, I explain that cases of global justice are usually complex, and in these cases, neither statism nor cosmopolitanism is simultaneously necessary and sufficient. One of such complex cases is resource curse. To resolve the case of resource curse, I propose the ‘general theory’ of global justice.
