ABSTRACT
This chapter identifies three potential and desirable outcomes of scientific literacy in HDFS professionals. Evidence-based practice is the use of research to inform professional practice decisions. Community-based science is the alliance of professionals in the field with scientists to conduct necessary research directly in an applied setting. Evidence-based advocacy is the use of scientific literacy to inform and motivate leadership in one's community on issues related to HDFS.
