ABSTRACT
This chapter includes sections on how to read critically, how to write reader-centred writing, how to structure writing for reading, and how online reading differs from reading on paper. There is overwhelming evidence that reading and writing are intimately connected in an osmotic relationship. The novelist Francine Prose says: ‘Like most—maybe all—writers, I learned to write by writing and, by example, by reading books’. William Giraldi says: ‘There’s no such thing as a skilful writer who is not also a dedicated reader’.
The chapter provides advice for producing readable workplace and academic writing that will contribute substantially to readers’ reception of writing.
