ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book discusses critical questions about what kinds of orientations and artefacts we are turning towards or away from in regard to media engagement – and within what social environments. It begins with an example of smartphone friendship, in particular the communication infrastructures for aggressively commercial streaming platforms targeting mobile social media publics in Southeast Asia, thus providing a snapshot of the intrinsic affective relations of media engagement. The book illustrates the five parameters of media engagement with an example of populism in professional wrestling, thus providing an in-depth analysis of the connections across popular entertainment, and live events and experiences, and political cultures in the Nordic region.
