ABSTRACT

Chapter 12 differentiates between non-parametric tests and parametric tests, provides an overview of the conceptual basis for non-parametric tests, and describes instances where non-parametric tests may be appropriate. In addition, the chapter examines a few commonly used non-parametric tests (Mann-Whitney U test, Wilcoxon signed-rank test, Spearman’s rho correlation) and provides examples of the types of clinical research questions these analyses can be used to address. Finally, the chapter highlights some of the limitations of non-parametric tests. The chapter also includes example data sets and demonstrations of how to perform the calculations involved for the non-parametric tests discussed in the chapter.
