ABSTRACT

During the 1930s there was a growing realisation of the role of the radio in modern society, and the importance of controlling and censoring the news broadcasts especially during the war. The Palestine Broadcasting Service (PBS) was founded in 1936. Extensive German and Italian propaganda was broadcast to the Arab population in Palestine. It led the British to establish a special station broadcasting in Arabic- al Sharq al-Adna. The station's mission was to help the British war effort by attracting Arab support. The Jewish Yishuv also established clandestine broadcasts in the 1940s, seeking to provide information and stay in touch with the community.
