ABSTRACT

Authors and poets lived in Jerusalem or visited the city during the war. British, Palestinian Jews, and refugees. Among them were Olivia Manning, Arthur Koestler, Freya Stark, Amos Oz and Elsa Lasker Schüler. They came from very different background which influenced their understanding and description of the city. They wrote about the events in Jerusalem and the region during the war, the crisis of 1942, and also shared their lives in a world of frightening uncertainty and danger, giving a new viewpoint to historical events.
