ABSTRACT

The German Templers lived in Palestine since the 19th century and developed successful settlements, including in Jerusalem. They enjoyed good relations with the authorities and all the communities in Palestine. However, with the rise of the Nazies to power, the majority of the German Templers community in Jerusalem, as in the rest of Palestine, supported the regime and many also joined the Nazi party. When the war broke out, some were suspected in fifth-column activities. Part of the community was arrested, put in detention camps, and later deported to Australia. By the end of the Mandate, there were no Templers settlements in Palestine.
