ABSTRACT

Since last National Climate Assessment was published, 2014 became the warmest year on record globally, 2015 surpassed 2014 by a wide margin, and 2016 surpassed 2015. The period from 2016 to 2020 ranked as the hottest years in human history. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the United Nations body for assessing the science related to climate change. It was created in 1988 by World Meteorological Organization and United Nations Environmental Programme, and thousands of scientists from all over the world contribute to the work of the IPCC. Many former climate change deniers on the national stage now acknowledge global heating is caused by human activity and they have shifted their energies to arguing that the market and technical innovation are the best way to handle the problem. In coastal areas, the majority of climate adaptation planning at the local level takes the form of preparing for sea level rise and this was a primary Seven50 task.
