ABSTRACT
After presenting their shared concern about modern rationality, I deal with three problems which seem to divide the thoughts of Merleau-Ponty and Foucault: the place of the human subject, the place of history and the role of psychology. I present the scholarly skepticism about a synthesis between Merleau-Ponty and Foucault and detail Foucault’s own explicit rejection of phenomenology.
