ABSTRACT

In the final chapter, I confirm the power of this united account by applying the account to three mental disorders that are studied and discussed by both thinkers: Schizophrenia, Major Depressive Disorder and Bipolar I Disorder. For example, we will look at the presence of guilt in schizophrenia and find that some individual expressions of guilt can be aligned with old practices that were first implemented to manipulate guilt in patients. I exegete and pair the particular thoughts that Merleau-Ponty and Foucault offer on these specific disorders and show how they are relevant to practitioners interested in more holistic care.
