ABSTRACT

This chapter implements the basic concepts from Chapter 1 while presenting the strategy framework for the entire book with its case study approach. The five major concept sections are closely interrelated. It begins with a discussion of the stakeholder approach to management and ethics. Next the chapter discusses public affairs (how business interacts with stakeholders) and issues management (a public affairs management approach to interacting with stakeholders). The fourth section extends issues management by describing how to identify and prevent potential crises and how to deal with crises that weren’t prevented. The last section pulls the chapter together by presenting a five-stage strategic analysis for dealing with stakeholders. The 5 Is analysis presents a framework for critically thinking about issues and stakeholders in your personal and professional lives. It is a helpful guide in case analysis.
