ABSTRACT

To prepare for working with a child, there are three areas to focus on: centering the mind, body and spirit, the relationship with the child, and the physical environment where the storytelling takes place. One of the most useful tools that attuned to your stress signals during training professionals is called The drawing check-in. Teachers, social workers and therapists have learned to incorporate this tool into their professional practice because it is a way for them to reflect on their feelings. When teachers practise the drawing check-in as preparation for a heroic storytelling session with a child, they give the child the opportunity to pause and settle, gather themselves in preparation for the story session. Mindfulness is an accepted practice for calming and regulating a frazzled, anxious, racing mind. The Bubble Blowing Technique is one of the best mindful breathing techniques for young children.
