ABSTRACT

A celebration can be offered at the completion of any stage in the hero's journey. In choosing to offer a celebration parents are offering the child a moment of unconditional praise and acceptance. When a child's play therapy comes to an end, the final session has a celebratory theme. The author provides a case study of young girl named Tia who has created and named her caked as unicorn cake. For her, cake represents the joyful and exciting aspects of a celebration. It's one of the resources she would take with her on her next journey. That's the other thing. Pay attention and review the symbols in the objects the child has created during their journey. These give an opportunity to learn more about the child. Including these resources in the celebration affirms for the child that parents have heard them and support them in their choices, both of which are very important for their self-esteem and confidence.
