ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author identifies the various court systems and distinguishes their disparate jurisdictions. Then he describes the central function of courts, both civil and criminal. Sets out various causes of action, particularly those in forestry cases, and suggests that the language used in the courtroom setting is often obscure, difficult to make sense of, and critically important. It also provides brief introduction to Alternative Dispute Resolution and includes a separate case study about oilfield damages.
