ABSTRACT
This chapter reviews the primary arguments of the book and, once again, lays out the road map for enabling adaptation. It defends the concept of self-sufficiency as a target that calls not for exclusivity, but for diversity, equity, and inclusion. It argues, first, that, when and if large-scale systems fail, we will need a diverse set of services within close proximity. Second, this can be sustained only through strong local economies that are highly intentional and diverse. And third, inclusivity is essential to this level of diversity. The book ends with these two sentences: This is not a distant utopia, but a very practical and immediate opportunity. We need to grab it. It is our responsibility to grab it.
