ABSTRACT

As the last and concluding chapter of this book, this chapter elaborates the theoretical significance and practical implications of the study with the aim of unveiling the motivations and choice of Hong Kong students to study in the mainland universities. After revisiting various models and theories discussed in Chapter 2, the first part of this chapter illustrates that this study has enhanced the integrated model of college choice of Laura Perna, by adding push-pull model, under the influence of both rational motives and sociological underpinnings to explain the cross-border educational choice of Hong Kong students. The processual view of a trans-contextualized negotiated educational choice is proposed. Future research can further explore the new push-pull factors influencing such educational choice under the rapidly changing sociopolitical context in Hong Kong.
