ABSTRACT

This chapter starts with presenting the numerous definitions which have been suggested for complexity in the literature together with different situations at which the word ‘complexity’ is usually used. In the subsequent sections, complexity is explored under two levels of organizational and interorganizational complexity and the notions relevant with each level are discussed. Further, the organizational complexity is examined in terms of two different lines of research. Diverse indicators for organizational complexity such as the structural complicity and the organizational size are then elucidated. In the remaining part of this chapter, the interorganizational complexity is reviewed in accordance with various economic agglomerations like networks, clusters, and industrial districts.
