ABSTRACT

The focus of this chapter is on data analysis and presentation. Techniques for both quantitative and qualitative data analysis are described [including sociology-specific methods and tips from human-centered and user experience (UX) design], followed by descriptions of pen-and-paper and digital tools in the marketplace for all the types of analytic methods discussed in the chapter. Setup of data analysis is described so readers can imagine ways to share findings with clients, users, and other design professionals. Setting up analysis so that a designer’s future designs can be informed by past designs is also detailed. The chapter concludes with tips for data visualization and presentation, with a reminder of why and how socially-informed research in the design process should be shared with audiences in an accessible and inclusive manner.
