ABSTRACT

Pisa is a middle-size town located in the region of Tuscany. The municipality of Pisa developed the project “Citta Sottili”, implemented between 2002 and 2010. The main objective of the project was to achieve the closure of all local nomad camps with the provision of a series of alternative housing solutions, to be realised progressively. The measures planned by the project entered its implementing phase in 2007 – the construction of the “Romani village” to be located in the same area of the nomad camp, near the municipality of Coltano. This chapter presents three interviews conducted in the village. All the interviews were conducted between November and December 2016. The common aspect recorded in almost all interviews is called as a “call for normality”. As highlighted, all interviews differed in many aspects, especially regarding the perspective on the accommodation provided and the expectations/desires for the future.
