ABSTRACT

Multicultural issues are not the focus of mainstream research methods. Multicultural psychology research centers BIPOC communities and can inform mainstream research. In multicultural psychology research, multicultural issues shape each aspect of the research process. The methods of multicultural psychology can enhance any research approach to become more relevant to a changing world. Qualitative research focuses on individuals’ lived realities and within-group diversity. Community-based participatory research involves researchers partnering with communities to determine their priorities and needs. The approaches in this chapter form the basis for much of the research in future chapters. Yet, much of the research to be reviewed incorporates BIPOC communities into mainstream methods.
