ABSTRACT

This chapter begins with an attempt to unmask neoliberalism and globalization. It then considers what attracts the Right to neoliberalism and globalization. The still-vexed issue of neoliberalizing educational “reform” is considered. The interface of climate change, school education policy, and neoliberalism in respect to school educational policy is then brought into focus. From here, the chapter moves to a comparative description and analysis of globalization and school education as an export commodity. The question of neoliberalism and globalization as a second Renaissance is then considered. This provides a perspective for the topic of the effect of globalization and national educational standards—the relationship of right-wing politics and Common Core State Standards. From here, the chapter looks to a comparative study of how neoliberalism and the right have impacted on universities and teacher education. The chapter comes to an end with some comparative conclusions.
