ABSTRACT

This chapter first considers issues surrounding the topic of the way in which right-wing politics has embraced moral panics and risk-society imperatives. It then looks to right-wing politics and the triumph of private school education, and the way in which government-funded schools have responded to these marketization and privatization imperatives. How the Right responds to issues of choice and the vexed question of sexuality education forms the next focus of this chapter. This leads to issues surrounding the topic of US Christian schools, in particular Bible Literacy classes. Then the topic of continuing issues with school educational vouchers in the US is examined. The chapter concludes with some comparative perspectives.
