ABSTRACT

This chapter argues that citizen authors can develop as authors who write within a particular genre and find rapid growth within digitally social platforms. Genre and marginalised fictions have found a growing audience and stream of citizen authors online and in digitally social spaces. Often, these authors write within categories of genres such as science fiction, fan fiction, and subgenres of romance, to name a few. These online spaces allow for relationships to form between readers and writers of genre fiction in ways that challenge the traditional industry’s understanding of both genre and the book.
