ABSTRACT

The philosophical field of epistemology, which plays such a prominent role in so many of the essays examined here, is brought into sharp relief as a practice in the work of Weizman. While with Karen Barad, authors see a complex theoretical exposition of her epistemological position that approaches to knowing cannot be separated from those of being in any understanding, Weizman's practice and activism through his group 'Forensic Architecture' demonstrates quite simply that the way the authors know something is what it is. Yet Weizman also turns our attention to a world where epistemologies are a form of employment of knowledge to nefarious, unjust and iniquitous ends. So unlike de Sousa Santos, who then provides the grounds for that positivist action Weizman and Forensic Architecture not only provide the grounds but proceed to carry out the positive action too. The name Weizman and Forensic Architecture give to their methodology is, as per the title of this essay 'Open Verification'.
