ABSTRACT
Robustness checks are crucial for identifying the impact of different researcher degrees of freedom. However, if the final specification is robust, but always in the direction of false feedback, we have not gained much. In fact, robustness is often the very reason why a certain specification was chosen. True robustness checks would start the entire way through the garden of forking paths from anew. Other, independent researchers, bringing a fresh perspective, should, thus, pursue robustness checks of a study.
