ABSTRACT

In academic research it is useful and common to take into account what others have argued and researched with respect to the topic under review, here: the development of democracy, democratization and de-democratization. We argue that there is room for improving our understanding and that there are serious omissions that impair a proper analysis as to why democracies may well be in peril. Finally, we propose to consider democracy as a means-end organisation to regulate society for the benefit of all that is characterised by most analysts as the so-called ‘Liberal Democratic’ model.
