ABSTRACT

This chapter steps into the ancient history of psychology. It examines psychological perspectives from across the ancient world, including Chinese, Babylonian, Egyptian, Persian, and Judaic perspectives. The chapter then presents foundational Greek thinkers, including early cosmologists who speculated about the nature of the universe and early Greek medical thinkers, some of whom provided early assessments of people with psychological difficulties. Next, the chapter explores the psychological thought of Plato and Socrates, reflecting their widespread influence on Western culture. The chapter concludes with an examination of Aristotle, one of the most comprehensive thinkers in all of history.
