ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the methodology of our study by discussing the research design, sampling, data collection technique, and data analysis procedures. Our research method involved surveying a sample of 1,267 Italians aged 18 and over, with the aim of understanding if and how ontological insecurity and cultural worldview may have impacted risk perception, the adoption of protective measures, and support toward governmental regulations during the so-called Phase 2 of the COVID-19 pandemic. Data analysis involved (1) data quality procedures, in order to control the quality and the reliability of the information; (2) univariate analysis, the aim of which was to describe the main trends in the results; (3) bivariate analysis, performed to understand if and how the results varied according to some variables, such as the sociodemographic ones; and (4) multivariate statistical techniques, such as factor analysis, multiple correspondence analysis, and cluster analysis, the aim of which was to synthesize the information contained in the data by simultaneously representing the variables and subjects belonging to our dataset.
