ABSTRACT
Chapter 7 deals with the connections between the language and blues. The features characterizing the relations between blues and English are particularly emphasized. Comparing the waveforms of lines taken from famous blues songs, pronounced by a British speaker, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, as they are sung by the performer, brings out a number of aspects shared by both productions. Differences, which are mainly due to musical constraints, can also be observed. The analysis of the waveforms also shows that the speech irregularities are reflected in the music. Blues is a traditionally oral folk music genre with an obvious linguistic imprint on its rhythm.
