ABSTRACT
While all the correlations are tabulated at the end of the book, this chapter discusses some of the more striking changes. Despite growing financial divisions, an increasing number of Hungarians believe that the world is just; support for the death penalty has dwindled by 12%, while there has been an increasingly positive view of the legal system and civic culture generally, despite the findings of the EU’s report and international condemnation.
People who recognize the external forces on criminality also see social change as necessary to reduce crime. In 2018, the vast majority of Hungarians continue to believe that it is down to centralized organizations to solve social problems rather than individuals and, for this reason, they are increasingly willing to accept external controls. A table of all the correlations is included at the end of the book.
