ABSTRACT
This chapter considers the heroes of the excellence project and in so doing marks and maps changes in the cast-list of the excellence project over its 40-year life-span. While conceding that the exemplary heroes of the project have, indeed, changed over time, the chapter notes (a) a consistency in the heroics performed and (b) Peters’ own transition from narrator to hero of the excellence project. The implications of this transition are considered.
