ABSTRACT
This chapter reviews the similarities and differences of various types of workers within the live entertainment audio field. Specifically, the chapter focuses on three key types: the freelancer, the company employee, and the union worker. Pros and cons for each type of job are detailed so that the reader has all the information to make informed decisions throughout their career. Charts explain types of clients, companies, and unions. Understanding the differences in benefits, pay, freedom, and personal responsibilities between the three key types of jobs is important for any live entertainment audio professional.
