ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on Happiness and examines the emotion in relation to two British works: Happy-Go-Lucky (2008, Mike Leigh) and Hector and the Search for Happiness (2014, Peter Chelsom). The first concerns a young teacher who is perpetually cheerful, even in the face of encountering a grouchy driving instructor who challenges her optimistic outlook. The second centers on a disaffected psychiatrist who travels around the world seeking the secret to happiness, an emotion that eludes him.
