ABSTRACT

This section of modules or learning plans relate to the benefits of finding control in stressful occupation related to self-care, productivity and leisure. It tackles stress at the source through setting goals, managing time and assertive communication. Topics include overcoming roadblocks to change and setting goals, increasing support networks through building community resources, and defining and setting healthy boundaries in relationships. Training occurs in groups but can be adapted for individual use. Training follows the adult learning model and is collaborative. Clients complete handouts to demonstrate learning and are encouraged to apply the learning to personal and meaningful occupation. Clients are encouraged to take action where they can, which assists with overcoming avoidant behaviour, feelings of helplessness and improving mental health.
