ABSTRACT

Goethe and his work on the theory of colours revolutionised the linking between a colour category and an emotional response. Since then many others have also produced scientific evidence to prove this theory. Some children may be more sensitive towards colour if they have increased sensory responses. This may include children with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder or autism spectrum disorder. Wearing school uniform can have an impact too on emotions with many children expressing that having it makes them feel safer and at less risk of harm and gives them a sense of belonging to the school community. Yet colour is always important for school leaders to consider when deciding on school uniform colour. Going for a red school uniform can stimulate energy and high emotions while blue can create calm.
