ABSTRACT

Placing an importance on the process of learning, “the basic law of children's creativity is that its value lies not in its results, not in the product of the creation but in the process itself”. Video and sound allow for the collection of beautiful moments that can be played back time and time again. Perhaps they may be in the form of a video projected onto a blank wall in the setting to allow young children to make connections with their learning. When working with a group of three-year-olds who had discovered some snails in the soil after a big downpour, there was so much curiosity about what could be seen. The work on both Vygotsky's model of the zone of proximal development and the notion of sustained shared thinking helps us to understand the role of the adult as a key component for high-quality learning.
