ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at how we can articulate our argument in a clear, confident and logical manner by examining what happens at a sentence level. It looks at signposting our argument, rhetorical strategies and writing with clarity, and explores the purpose of sentences and examines how we can use the Christmas Cracker template to forge logical, persuasive syntax. Signallers and discourse markers are an essential component of our sentences, paragraphs and essays. Structuring sentences and understanding the rules of grammar are probably the most difficult challenges students with dyslexia face. Evaluation often takes place at a paragraph level (or even at an essay level), but individual sentences enable us to articulate important evaluative comments.
